Diversity in Action: Introducing the DAC
OS National's Bold Step Towards Inclusivity
In 2020, as the world grappled with a heightened sense of awareness regarding social injustices, OS National recognized the urgent need to deepen its commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. They established the Diversity Advisory Council in the summer of 2020, but after months of the councils existence, it lacked clear leadership and direction, leaving it without an official launch or meaningful impact within the organization.
The initiative, though well-intentioned, had stalled, missing an opportunity to drive change during a pivotal moment during the nations cultural climate. Recognizing the importance of this effort, MyCommsAlly stepped forward to lead the council’s official kickoff, turning a dormant idea into a vibrant and actionable program that could unite and inspire employees.
Objectives:
Introduce the Diversity Advisory Council: Create a dynamic and inclusive launch event, introducing the council members, its mission, and vision to the entire organization.
Enhanced DEI Awareness: Provide educational and interactive activities to deepen employees’ understanding of diversity, equity, and inclusion and encourage meaningful dialogue.
Create a Unified Experience: Create a seamless experience for both in-person and remote employees, ensuring equal access to council activities.
Implementation
The kickoff event for OS National’s Diversity Advisory Council was thoughtfully designed as a hybrid experience to ensure accessibility for all employees. A logo was designed to distinguish the DAC as a branded council. In-office participants engaged with interactive games and activities focused on DEI education and awareness, while remote employees could join a looping virtual interactive experience at their convenience. At centerpiece of the event was a series of three live-streamed fireside chats featuring council members discussing
various DEI topics and sharing their personal experiences on varioustopics including unconscious bias and the importance of diversity in the workplace. These heartfelt conversations called "A Seat at the Table", streamed in real-time and allowed both in-person and virtual attendees to connect and engage meaningfully. To further celebrate the occasion, a custom-branded cake and balloons was displayed throughout the office symbolizing the official launch of the council and marking the beginning of a renewed commitment to DEI.
The Results
Increased Awareness: Employees across the organization gained a deeper understanding of DEI principles and the council’s purpose.
High Participation: The hybrid format ensured strong engagement, with both in-office and remote employees actively participating in the event.
