Making a Sales Enablement Intranet Easier to Navigate
A refresh of the Sales Enablement intranet brought teams, news, and essential resources into a clearer, more connected experience.
BACKGROUND
At a global healthcare company, the U.S. Commercial Region brought together five core functions: Marketing, Sales Enablement, Data & Analytics, Strategic Customer Group and Sales Operations. Its intranet was intended to help employees understand those functions, find resources and stay informed about programs and updates.
As teams, leaders and processes changed, the site did not keep pace. The Commercial Region home page did not clearly represent its functions, and the Sales Enablement site, nested within it, was difficult to find and navigate.
THE CHALLENGE
The U.S. Sales Enablement's intranet presence had grown outdated and disjointed, creating friction for users trying to access resources across key commercial functions. The Sales Enablement team included five core sub-functions: Sales and Professional Development, Incentive Compensation, Inside Sales, and Salesforce. Despite frequent updates within those teams, employees struggled to find current and relevant information due to the site structure and navigation making information hard to find. Plus, there was no clear owner of the teams intranet site to establish governance and site updates.
THE OBJECTIVE
To make the intranet a more useful destination by clarifying how information was organized, improving access to resources and giving Sales Enablement programs and updates greater visibility.
STRATEGIC APPROACH
The work began with conversations with Sales Enablement leaders to understand their priorities, the resources their teams needed to share, and the challenges employees faced when using the site. An audit of the existing pages and content identified outdated information and gaps in the site’s structure.
Those findings informed a reorganization of the Sales Enablement site. Pages and subpages were grouped by function, with clearer entry points from the main Sales Enablement page. Each sub-function received a dedicated news section, while its updates also appeared on the main page. Consistent navigation made it easier to move between related sites and external resources like Showpad.
The refresh extended to the content and visual experience. Organizational charts were updated and an archive of the newly established monthly newsletter "Beyond the Deal" was brought together in one place, while custom graphics gave the pages a cohesive, branded, unified look.
