Launching a Diversity Advisory Council Through a Hybrid Experience
A hybrid experience made the DAC's mission and members more visible across the organization.
BACKGROUND
In 2020, a national business established a Diversity Advisory Council to champion DE&I initiatives and help create a fair, inclusive, and equitable environment where all employees feel valued. Several months later, the council had not been formally introduced to employees or established a visible presence across the organization. The council needed a launch that would explain its purpose, introduce its members and invite employees into the conversation.
THE CHALLENGE
Without a clear kickoff, employees had limited opportunity to understand what the council was for or how to engage with it. The launch also needed to reach both office-based and remote employees, who could not all participate in the same way. The experience had to make space for personal perspectives and discussion while giving employees an accessible way to learn about the council.
THE OBJECTIVE
To introduce the council and its members, make its purpose clear, and create opportunities for employees to learn and participate, in-person or virtual.
STRATEGIC APPROACH
The kickoff was designed as a hybrid experience. Remote employees could access a virtual interactive experience at a time that worked for them. Three live-streamed fireside chats brought council members’ voices to both audiences. In those conversations, members shared personal experiences and discussed topics including unconscious bias and the value of diversity at work.
A distinct logo gave the council a recognizable identity, while in-office activations invited employees to explore topics related to diversity, equity and inclusion. Branded elements in the office marked the occasion and made the council’s introduction recognizable beyond the kick-off.
