Extending Communications Capacity for a National Youth Organization
MCA supports Boys & Girls Clubs of America with National Conference scripts and ongoing editorial content that brings its programs and partnerships to life.
BACKGROUND
Boys & Girls Clubs of America’s (BGCA) National Conference brings youth development professionals together to drive a shared mission: helping young people reach their full potential as productive, caring, responsible citizens. Each year, thousands of Club leaders, board members, and staff representing nearly 5,500 Clubs nationwide gather at the event. Corporate partners, guest speakers and celebrities from BGCA’s Alumni Hall of Fame also attend. The event is an opportunity for the Boys & Girls Club Enterprise to connect on organizational priorities, including through storytelling that resonates with a live audience.
MCA’s work with BGCA began with scripting support for its National Conference, helping shape remarks that would connect with a live audience. After the conference, the partnership continued with year-round articles for BGCA.org, highlighting national partnerships and programs independently of the event. The two workstreams called for scripts that would resonate with a live audience, while the website articles needed to make Club programs and partnerships clear and compelling to readers.
THE CHALLENGE
Conference remarks had to do more than convey information. They needed to sound natural and carry a clear message from beginning to end. Scripts, talking points, presentations, and supporting materials also need to work together so the audience would hear a consistent story throughout the event.
Developing that content alongside day-to-day communications (including writing and publishing external blog posts), created a need for additional writing support.
THE OBJECTIVE
To provide writing support that could help BGCA develop clear, audience-centered messaging across its National Conference and digital communications.
STRATEGIC APPROACH
Writing for the National Conference:
MCA developed two live event scripts and eight scripts for prerecorded videos. BGCA provided interview recordings with celebrity alumni, including professional athletes and Grammy-nominated artists. MCA drew on those interviews to write video scripts about the role Boys & Girls Clubs played in shaping their childhoods and adult success.
For the live event, BGCA provided direction and samples from previous years. MCA used those materials to write one script recognizing a local Boys & Girls Club for its delivery of innovative programs and another honoring a lifetime achievement recipient. Each script was shaped for its place in the event, with language intended to be clear when spoken and meaningful to the audience.
Telling partner stories for the website:
MCA also developed articles that connected corporate partnerships and Club programs to experiences and opportunities for young people. The topics included:
-
A financial services partnership supporting academic success, including a back-to-school story about summer learning and preparing Club kids for the new school year.
-
An entertainment partnership exploring how movie experiences can create opportunities for connection, creativity, and new interests among Club youth.
-
A media and entertainment partnership focused on a storytelling program that gives young people ways to develop their creativity and explore future possibilities.
-
A hospitality and entertainment partnership that brought together responsible gaming, the role of trusted adults, esports, and career exploration in a story relevant to teens and families.
Across these articles, MCA shaped these stories into focused narratives, connecting partner activity and BCGA’s youth development mission.
"MCA has been a trusted partner for our communications team. They absorb project needs quickly, connect it with the right audience, and craft stories that engage and inspire.”

A more cohesive narrative for the stage. The live scripts gave speakers language tailored to the purpose of each recognition moment, while the video scripts turned alumni interviews into stories that inspired and celebrated the work Club professionals do to empower youth.
Stronger connections between national partnerships and youth impact. BGCA.org articles demonstrated how partnerships help drive Club programs, experiences, and opportunities available to Club kids.
Added capacity. With MCA supporting both conference and website content, the internal team could move multiple communications priorities forward.

RESULTS & IMPACT
The engagement has produced content for two important channels: BGCA’s National Conference and its national website. It demonstrates how an experienced communications partner can step into an existing team’s workflow, understand the audience behind each assignment, and help turn information into stories people can follow and remember.
